In keeping faith with our commitment to showcasing agropreneurs who have continued to make giant strides in Nigeria’s agricultural sector, Farmlife Media is pleased to introduce a special feature celebrating farmers, agricultural entrepreneurs, and industry stakeholders who are making significant contributions to the growth and development of agriculture in Nigeria.

Across the country, countless farmers and agropreneurs are working tirelessly to produce food, create jobs, develop agricultural value chains, empower communities, and contribute to Nigeria’s food security. Many of these individuals may not always receive the recognition they deserve, yet their contributions remain critical to the present and future of the nation’s agricultural sector.

They are the unsung heroes of our time—men and women who continue to cultivate for humanity, create opportunities for others, and support the government’s efforts to achieve food security and sustainable agricultural development.

Through this initiative, Farmlife Media seeks, in its own little way, to bring these remarkable individuals into the spotlight, celebrate their achievements, document their contributions, and inspire others to see agriculture not merely as a means of livelihood but as a powerful driver of economic transformation.

This recognition is also designed to encourage farmers and agropreneurs to do more, attract greater attention to the agricultural sector, and inspire a new generation of Nigerians to embrace agriculture as a viable business and a pathway to national development.

The Farmlife’s Top 100 Renowned Agropreneurs series therefore celebrates individuals who are keeping faith with agricultural development in Nigeria through their investments, innovations, persistence, and commitment to the sector.

In no particular order:

ROTIMI WILLIAMS

Reported to own the 2nd largest commercial rice farm in Nigeria

Meet ROTIMI WILLIAMS

According to reports, Rotimi Williams owns the 2nd largest commercial rice farm in Nigeria by land size.

A Nigerian entrepreneur and rice farmer, Williams has carved a distinctive path in the agricultural sector, particularly in commercial rice production. His journey represents an interesting transition from the world of journalism and policy analysis into large-scale commercial agriculture.

At the age of 37, Rotimi Williams had already established himself as a notable figure in Nigeria’s agricultural landscape, demonstrating how experience, vision, and determination can be channelled into building a significant agricultural enterprise.

He is the founder and owner of Kereksuk Rice Farm, located in Nasarawa State, and is recognised as one of Nigeria’s prominent commercial rice farmers by land size.

From Journalism to Agropreneurship

Before venturing fully into agriculture, Rotimi Williams worked as a financial journalist and policy analyst. His professional background exposed him to economic issues, public policy, business development, and some of the challenges confronting Nigeria’s economy.

He subsequently shifted his focus towards commercial agriculture, driven in part by the need to contribute to addressing Nigeria’s heavy reliance on imported food and the challenges surrounding domestic food production.

Rather than simply discussing the challenges facing Nigeria’s agricultural sector, Williams chose to become part of the solution by investing directly in commercial farming.

He founded Kereksuk Rice Farm, embarking on a journey that would see him develop a large-scale agricultural enterprise focused on rice production.

Farm Operations & Impact

Located in Nasarawa State, Nigeria, Kereksuk Rice Farm operates across thousands of hectares of arable farmland dedicated to commercial rice production.

The farm is reported to span over 4,500 hectares of arable land, making it one of the notable large-scale commercial rice farming operations in the country by land size.

Beyond the size of the farm, its significance extends to its contribution to employment and grassroots economic development. The agricultural enterprise provides employment opportunities for hundreds of local indigenes and contributes to economic activities within its surrounding communities.

Large-scale agricultural investments such as this have the potential to create opportunities across the wider agricultural value chain—from land preparation, planting, harvesting, processing, transportation, and marketing to other support services associated with rice production.

Contributing to Rice Production and Food Security

Rice remains one of Nigeria’s most important staple foods, with demand continuing to grow alongside the country’s expanding population.

For this reason, investments in domestic rice production are increasingly important to the country’s food security ambitions. Commercial farmers such as Rotimi Williams are contributing to this effort by investing in the production of rice on a large scale.

His agricultural journey reflects a broader need for increased private-sector participation in agriculture, particularly in areas where Nigeria has significant production potential.

Through Kereksuk Rice Farm, Williams has continued to demonstrate the possibilities that exist within commercial agriculture when farming is approached not only as a traditional occupation but also as a structured business enterprise.

Driving the Agricultural Value Chain

From journalism to agropreneurship, Rotimi Williams has continued to carve a niche for himself in Nigeria’s agricultural sector.

His involvement in commercial rice production places him within an important segment of the agricultural value chain, while his large-scale farming operation highlights the role that private investment can play in strengthening domestic food production.

His story is also a reminder that agriculture is not limited to small-scale farming. With the right vision, investment, land, technology, management, and commitment, agriculture can become a major commercial enterprise capable of creating jobs, supporting communities, and contributing to national development.

A Story Worth Celebrating

For Farmlife Media, the story of Rotimi Williams represents more than the size of a farm. It is a story of transition, determination, investment, and commitment to agriculture.

From the newsroom and world of financial journalism to the fields of Nasarawa State, Williams has demonstrated that the knowledge acquired in one professional field can be redirected towards solving some of society’s most pressing challenges.

His journey into commercial agriculture and his investment in rice production make him one of the agropreneurs whose contributions deserve recognition as Nigeria continues its search for sustainable solutions to food production and food security.

As Farmlife Media celebrates its Top 100 Renowned Agropreneurs in Nigeria, Rotimi Williams stands among the agricultural entrepreneurs whose stories can inspire others to look beyond the challenges of the sector and see the enormous opportunities that agriculture presents.

Farmlife Media celebrates Rotimi Williams for keeping faith with agricultural development in Nigeria.
