In a bid to cushion the effects of economic hardship and support workers ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir celebration, the Oyo State Government has commenced the distribution of subsidised food commodities and rams to civil servants across the state under a welfare intervention scheme facilitated by the Agricultural Credit Corporation of Oyo State (ACCOS).
The Oyo State Government, through the Agricultural Credit Corporation of Oyo State (ACCOS), has begun the distribution of subsidised food commodities to interested workers across the state ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
The initiative, unveiled at the corporation’s premises in Ibadan, is aimed at easing the financial burden on workers and enabling them to celebrate the festive season with greater comfort amid prevailing economic challenges.
Speaking during the exercise, the Chairman of ACCOS, Sheikh Akeugberu Akeugbagold, said the intervention underscored the commitment of the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde to workers’ welfare and improved living conditions.
Represented by the Coordinating Head of the Corporation, Mr Tunde Oladejo, the chairman disclosed that the state government committed over ₦120 million to procure the commodities for the programme.
According to him, the subsidised items include bags of rice, Kings vegetable oil and rams, all of which are being offered to workers at reduced prices to support them during the Sallah festivities.
He explained that beneficiaries would repay the costs through salary deductions spread across three months, beginning from July 2026 salaries.
Akeugberu noted that the gesture formed part of the state government’s broader welfare-driven policies targeted at reducing the impact of economic hardship on residents, especially workers.
He also urged beneficiaries to continue supporting the programmes and policies of the present administration, assuring that people-centred initiatives would remain a priority of the government.
