Recently, state governments have been taking proactive steps in their domain to improve agricultural development in Nigeria.

One of such is the Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, who recently pledged his administration’s commitment to infrastructure development at the unveiling of Phase II of the Imashayi–Igan-Okoto–Ayetoro Road in Yewa North Local Government Area of the state.
PUNCH online of March 6, 2026 reports that Abiodun made the commitement while addressing residents, assured that the last phase of the road would be completed to connect the Ayetoro corridor as part of efforts to improve transportation and economic activities in the area.

The governor also directed the Ministry of Housing to inspect the Youth Development Centre in the LGA and commence renovation works to benefit the community’s youths.

Acknowledging that his government cannot reconstruct all roads in the state at once, Abiodun emphasised that efforts to deliver road infrastructure would continue across the three senatorial districts until the end of his tenure.

The govenor described Yewa North as one of the state’s food baskets, and said it was crucial to link farming communities with major towns to facilitate the movement of agricultural produce from farms to markets.

“Today, we have constructed over 20 road projects in Yewaland and Ogun West. While the number may not appear large, many of these roads are extensive and equivalent to about six or seven roads in other senatorial districts.

For instance, the Agbara–Atan–Lusada Road is a dual carriageway spanning about 20 kilometres, yet it counts as a single project. The same applies to the Ilaro–Owode Road and several others currently under construction, as well as those recently awarded and others that will soon be awarded,” the statement quoted.

Abiodun further assured residents that his administration would continue to provide purposeful and inclusive leadership through the implementation of both micro and macroeconomic policies.

He also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for bold national policies, particularly the ongoing construction of the 1,000-kilometre Badagry–Sokoto Highway, which he said would reduce travel time between Imeko and Lagos to less than one hour.

“I want to thank Mr President. If not for you, many states would have become insolvent. We appreciate the stability in fuel supply and the improving exchange rate. Today, Ogun State has become the investors’ destination of choice and the fastest-growing economy in Nigeria.” He said.

Speaking on the technical details of the project, the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Ade Akinsanya, explained that Phase II of the 21-kilometre road includes reinforced concrete structures in flood-prone areas to prevent erosion and flooding.

He added that the project was divided into three phases to facilitate efficient construction and noted that the road has enhanced the movement of farm produce, improved service delivery, strengthened security, and boosted residents’ quality of life.

Dignitaries present at the ceremony included the Chairman, Yewa North Local Government Area, Olusola Akinbode, House of Representatives member for Yewa North/Imeko-Afon Federal Constituency, Gboyega Isiaka, the Iyaloja General of Ogun State, Yemisi Abass, and the Adokun of Igan-Okoto, Oba Mukaila Salako, among others.
