COCEFAAA and CRIN signs MoU at strengthening Value chain across Nigeria .

In a renewed push to reposition Nigeria within the global coffee market, the Cocoa and Coffee Farmers Alliance Association of Africa and the Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria have entered into a strategic partnership aimed at reviving coffee production, strengthening value chains, and improving farmers’ livelihoods through innovation, research, and sustainable agricultural practices.
The Cocoa and Coffee Farmers Alliance Association of Africa (COCEFAAA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria (CRIN) under the Nigeria Coffee Revival Initiative, marking a significant step toward revitalising Nigeria’s coffee industry and strengthening the country’s cocoa and coffee value chains.
The agreement is designed to improve coffee production and productivity through farmer empowerment, climate-smart agricultural practices, research-driven innovations, improved planting materials, and enhanced post-harvest quality management.
The partnership will also focus on establishing commercial processing units, demonstration farms, irrigation pilot projects, and the deployment of traceability and seed-tracker technology to improve transparency, sustainability, and efficiency across the sector.
Speaking on the development, the Global President of COCEFAAA, Adeola Adegoke, described the partnership as a major milestone for Nigeria’s agricultural sector and the wider African coffee industry.
According to him, the collaboration represents a strategic effort to restore Nigeria’s competitiveness in the global coffee market while creating sustainable economic opportunities for farmers and rural communities.
“This collaboration represents a strategic step toward restoring Nigeria’s position in the global coffee market while improving the livelihoods of thousands of farmers across the country,” Adegoke stated.
He explained that beyond increasing production, the initiative is focused on building a sustainable and competitive coffee ecosystem driven by innovation, research, and farmer-centred development.
Adegoke noted that the programme aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, particularly in the areas of agriculture, food security, job creation, and economic diversification.
Under the agreement, COCEFAAA and CRIN are expected to collaborate closely with cocoa- and coffee-producing states, research institutions, academic bodies, non-governmental organisations, and other industry stakeholders to ensure effective implementation of the initiative.
The partnership will also prioritise training and capacity building for farmers and agricultural extension officers to improve productivity, quality standards, and market competitiveness.
Stakeholders believe the initiative could play a vital role in repositioning Nigeria as a major player in Africa’s coffee industry while strengthening sustainable cocoa and coffee production through research-backed agricultural development and innovation.
