As the cost of living continues to climb, Nigeria’s livestock market is witnessing a sharp surge that is reshaping both trade and consumption patterns. In Lagos, butchers are raising alarm over soaring cattle prices, warning that the trend could further strain household budgets and disrupt meat supply chains.
News Agency of Nigeria in this report provides respondents to the issue of rising cost of meats which is in connection with the cost of living which continues to climb, just as Nigeria’s livestock market continues to witness a sharp surge that is reshaping both trade and consumption patterns.

Kazeem explained that Lagos remains heavily dependent on cattle supply from northern Nigeria, and the rising cost of diesel and petrol has significantly increased the expense of moving livestock to the state.
He further observed that local production has yet to fill the supply gap due to delays in planned feedlot and ranching programmes.
Calling for urgent government intervention, Kazeem urged authorities to fast-track the implementation of the Eko Ranching project in Gbodu, Epe, noting that it could boost local production, create jobs, and ultimately reduce the cost of meat for consumers.
