Farmers in Ogun State have express satisfactions for the unprecedented prosperity as a result of sustained agricultural interventions by the state government, according to the Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Honourable Bolu Owotomo.

He made this known during a radio interview, Owotomo attributed the progress to the farmer-friendly policies of Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun, whose administration has made targeted agricultural support possible across the state.

He made it known that Ogun State Farmers Information Management System (OGFIMS) was introduced to register genuine farmers and value-chain actors, enabling government to deliver efficient and need-based interventions.

He made it known that, the government has significantly reduced production costs through subsidies on fertilisers, fish feed, poultry feed, and land clearing.

While noting that government covers 65 percent of land clearing costs, with over 9,000 hectares already cleared for cultivation.

In aquaculture, Owotomo disclosed that 5,086 fish farmers are registered on OGFIMS, with 4,300 benefiting from a 30 percent subsidy on fish feed, supported by a government investment of about ₦2.7 billion. Poultry farmers are also benefiting from subsidised inputs and modern processing facilities with the capacity to process 5,000 birds daily, or about 1.3 million annually.

He further noted that capacity-building programmes are helping farmers improve record-keeping, financial management, and access to credit, thereby transforming them into agribusiness operators. The commissioner highlighted the impact of the state’s eight farm settlements and farm clusters, noting that Ajegunle Farm Settlement alone has more than over 400 active farmers, including about 200 poultry farmers.

Owotomo emphasised that the interventions are largely government-driven strategic investments, rather than loan-based schemes, reaffirming the administration’s commitment to improving productivity, profitability, and food security in the state.
